InterCompany Postings

Consolidating Companies' Accounts

InterCompany Postings provides the mechanism to post between different companies within Microsoft Great Plains. Any posting performed through the General Ledger can be trapped, with the transactions being transferred to a destination company.

Two ways exist to create an inter-company transaction. Firstly, ranges of accounts to trigger from and post to can be set up, with support for wildcards in the account numbers. MDA options can also be applied in this setup window. This first way of setting up the system provides transparent inter-company posting for the operator. As all the trigger and posting accounts are pre-defined, the operator simply has to choose the right accounts numbers.

A second way of setting the system up has been provided as an alternative for those who do not want to increase their chart of accounts. A much simpler setup window defines just the control accounts. All posting accounts for an inter-company transaction are then specified on the transaction itself. This method is currently only supported in General Ledger and Payables Management.

For a comparison of the two ways to create inter-company transactions see the Intercompany Features page.

InterCompany Postings supports transactions in any currency, and even handles the source and destination companies having different functional currencies. Once an inter-company transaction is posted, all the details are sent to the destination company. The destination company can be a different company on the same system, the same as the source company (intra-company posting), or even a company on a remote site with a different system.

If the transaction is on the same system, cross-company drill down is possible. This means the destination company can see the full details of the transaction in the source company.
